Wow Andrea, there are so many moments in this piece that I can really feel. The way you’ve written the story is brilliant.

You handled it so well by asking those questions, and to hear that wisdom from a 10 year old girl must have been so moving, I think I would have felt the same. It gives me some hope that different ideas are finding their way into the minds of little people (amongst all the other noise). x

Ps. I used to live in Kemptown so I loved being able to picture this!

Pps. I went to laser quest as a 7 year old unidentified Autistic girl and was freaking out because I didn’t understand that it wasn’t real!

Oh Sophie, I can completely get how 7yo thought it was real… I got heart palps going in there! Thanks so much for your lovely comments about this piece 😊

Sorry, not just mums obviously, all great adults helping children see how amazing they are. But you were a shining example holding the space together for them in that tricky situation xx

This is wonderful, I love the hope and posative message. I have a wonderful daughter who has taught me so much about what's important in life. I see so much great stuff around, it made me want to write about it. If I can bring even a bit of how reading your piece felt, into my writing - I'll be happy. Yes change is still needed, but change doesn't come without hope and polarising people into 'good' and 'bad' because of a comment doesn't help understanding and moving forward. Yey to the new generation x

Oh yes, I have faith in the up coming generations, for so many reasons. And very very well done for sitting down with your team and having this conversation, that's something most adults would shy away from.
